The Biggest Luxury You Never Noticed

This Sunday, I am chilling at home. My only job is to handle my wife and her kids (mine too). No alarm, No specific agenda. But did you ever notice, how many of us have this freedom to take Sunday Off? Or rather choose so many things !

The food we eat. The city we vacation in. The school for our kids. The outfit at the mall. We choose. Every single time.

Now think about the Security guard of my society. Same chair, Same post.  Every Single Day. He always regards me with a smile on his face. Same is the case with many such auto-walas, vegetable vendors etc.

While, I chose to chill on Sunday, They didn't have that choice. Now, think about it. Getting to choose something itself is not a small thing. That's an ultimate Luxury.

Most of the time, we have the luxury to choose or reject from multiple options. And with time, we start treating it as our entitlement. One small compromise, and we react as if the heavens have fallen.

The freedom to choose is not a right. It's a bonus.

Crores of people eat what's available, work where work exists. Vacation is not even in their wildest dreams.

Now you'll say, "Boss, I worked hard for all this!" But hard work earned you the options, not the entitlement. And entitlement kills the joy of having it in the first place. The extent to which traffic irritates us — we never value the fact that at least we own a car, while most around us are riding two-wheelers. The happiness of owning lasts just a day, and fades away quickly.

Nothing changed in what we have. Everything changed in what we expect. That's where unhappiness begins.

Everything in life is a bonus, except life itself — that's a gift.

If you have the freedom to choose  your food, your travel, your Sunday — you have no business staying sad in your life.

Gratitude is not limited to good health, a degree, or a peaceful night's sleep. It's also in noticing your freedom to decide. That's the luxury we take for granted.

Next time, identify your true luxury; not in the assets you are obsessed about,  but in your freedom to choose. Because for many, it's still a dream.

What's one choice you took for granted today? Tell me in the comments
